Training and consultancy services

Our training equips others to make a difference in their community.

We offer basic nutrition training and consultancy services for groups and organisations in Nepal who want to develop their nutrition knowledge and ability to conduct community-level nutrition activities. NPCS has a long history of providing training to the staff of NGOs, development agencies, community groups and health sector organisations.

Nutrition
Training —

Our curriculum uses NPCS’s food-based approach to promoting good nutrition and is aligned with current national and global nutrition strategies. Delivered by experienced nutrition trainers, the five-day course involves a mix of theoretical learning and practical application.

Six months later, the participants return for a three-day follow up course to ensure they have retained the knowledge. The course includes a written assessment which participants must complete.

Participants are awarded a certificate of achievement after successfully completing the course.

Topics covered include:

  • Basic concepts of food and nutrition
  • Major micronutrient deficiencies and how to manage them
  • Value of Nepali foods and how to eat a healthy and nutritious diet
  • Assessing children’s growth and addressing child malnutrition
  • Conducting simple nutrition sessions with a community group
  • Nutrition for pregnant and lactating women
  • Complementary feeding of infants
  • Breastfeeding promotion
  • Nutrition for people living with illness and disease (e.g. HIV/AIDs, diabetes, heart disease)

We needed this sort of practical and behaviour-oriented nutrition training in our community, focusing on women, disadvantaged groups and their special needs. This training will help make the future of our children bright by helping families understand the importance of feeding children nutritious food during their first two years for good brain development

and trainee, Jiri Project

NPCS trainers covered factual information about diet in rural Nepal, including the cultural context for Nepali dietary habits and myths associated with certain foods. The sessions were well structured and presented so that participants with only a basic nutrition background could deliver education about nutrition in their own communities in a culturally sensitive way. This is very crucial for behaviour change in rural Nepal
